Extreme Rock Crawler
This fully articulated, chain-driven 4 x 4 buggy takes rock crawling to a whole new level

Rock crawling is about slow-speed, careful and precise driving, and high torque generated through large gear reductions in the vehicles drivetrain. Rock crawlers often drive up, down and across obstacles that would appear impassable - and impossible.
This machine, built by Cameron Carlson, makes current rock crawlers obsolete.
Cameron's machine is built around a hydraulic chain-drive 4x4, with 7 feet of up or down motion on each tire. The engine is a fuel injected Ford 5.0 V8 out of a '93 cobra mustang, a C4 transmission and t-case out of an early bronco.

Swing arms are hydraulically controlled individually or together, and there is coil spring and shock suspension as well. Large chains running inside the swing arms turn Hummer gear reduction (2:1) hubs at each wheel.
The tires are 39.5" and steering is linked through the swing arms as well and the steering box is mounted in front of the axle below the driver. The body construction is steel tubing (mostly DOM), with a total weight of 5,900 pounds.
