Dyson Fan Without Blades

Leave it up to Dyson to come up with a futuristic table fan
- with a price tag that could choke a horse.

Dyson Fan Without Blades

The Dyson brand has made a name for itself by taking tired product categories and reinventing them, making things like vacuums and hand dryers more effective and high-tech. It's also a company that tries to find the most expensive ways to move air.

Dyson's latest "air" project is creating and selling a table fan like no other. The Dyson Air Multiplier is the company's take on this all-too-common product. The Air Multiplier's main upgrade: It does away with fan blades, instead using an "annular aperture" to blow air away from a large plastic ring, attached to a motorized base.

Dyson Fan Patent

The patent describes the fan as: "an arrangement producing an air current and a flow of cooling air created without requiring a bladed fan - i.e. air flow is created by a bladeless fan." "These arrangements create a fan assembly with a compact structure."

How it works

Air is accelerated through an annular aperture. This creates a jet of air that passes over a 16° airfoil-shaped ramp, channeling its direction.

No blades mean the Dyson Air Multiplier fan is safe and easy to clean. It also has touch-tilt, 90° oscillation and a dimmer-switch power control.

The Dyson Air Multiplier is priced at $299 for the 10-inch version and $329 for the 12-inch version.
